Shopify Q3 2026 Earnings on November 3: What to Watch, and What AI Commerce Numbers Mean for Merchants

Shopify will report its third quarter 2026 results before markets open on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, with a conference call at 8:30 a.m. ET. Investors will watch revenue and margins. Merchants should watch something else: what Shopify says about AI shopping, because that is where the platform is putting its weight, and it will shape the tools you get in 2027.
This is not investment advice. We are a web agency, not financial advisers. But Shopify’s earnings calls are one of the best signals of where the platform is heading, so here is what to look out for and how it affects your store.
What Shopify has guided for Q3
Shopify’s own guidance for the quarter is:
- Revenue growth in the low 30s percent year over year.
- Gross profit growth in the mid to high 20s percent.
- Operating expenses at 33 to 34 percent of revenue.
- Free cash flow margin in the high teens to low 20s.
For context, Q2 2026 revenue was $3.44 billion, up 34 percent year over year, with Shopify Payments processing 68 percent of gross merchandise volume. Some analyst consensus figures for Q3 sit around $3.7 billion in revenue, at or slightly above what the company’s guidance implies.
The AI commerce numbers to watch
Last quarter, Shopify shared a set of AI figures that got a lot of attention:
- AI driven traffic and orders were up about 3x year over year.
- New buyer orders from AI channels came in at twice the rate of other channels.
- Searches powered by Shopify Catalog converted at twice the rate of general AI searches.
- Sidekick daily active merchants were up 3.6x.
- Custom apps built with AI reached 36,000 in Q2, up from 12,000 in Q1.
On November 3, look for whether these numbers keep climbing, and for any comments about the holiday season. Shopify has already said 65 percent of shoppers plan to use AI for at least one shopping task this season.
Why this matters for your store
AI shoppers are new customers
The stat that matters most for merchants is that AI channels bring new buyers at twice the rate of other channels. People who discover you through ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot or Claude are often people who would never have found you through your ads. If your products are not visible to those assistants, you miss them.
Shopify Catalog is the key
Shopify Catalog is how your products are shared with AI shopping agents. In October, Shopify started sharing compare-at prices with agents through Catalog, and launched Shop MCP so agents can search products, build carts and pay with Shop Pay. Agent orders appear in your admin like any other order.
The practical takeaway: your product data is now marketing. Titles, descriptions, variants, prices, images and stock levels need to be accurate and complete, because an AI agent reads them literally.
Sidekick is becoming the admin
Shopify’s redesigned admin puts Sidekick, its AI assistant, front and centre as a floating chat. In October it also came to the checkout and accounts editor. If Sidekick use keeps growing, expect more of Shopify’s new features to arrive through it first.
The risks Shopify faces
Analysts have flagged competing agentic commerce protocols, such as the Agentic Commerce Protocol from OpenAI and Stripe, as a risk to Shopify’s central role. If shoppers buy through AI assistants using other checkout systems, Shopify could lose some of its grip on the customer relationship. For merchants, this is a reason not to rely on any one channel. Keep building your own email list and direct traffic.
October’s app security incidents are also likely to come up. Several popular apps were used to push shoppers to fake checkout pages, and hundreds of apps were delisted for review. Expect questions about trust in the app ecosystem.
Five questions we hope analysts ask
- How much of holiday GMV does Shopify expect to come through AI channels?
- Will Catalog and Shop MCP reach merchants in the UK, Europe and Australia, and when?
- How will Shopify tighten app security after the October incidents?
- Will Sidekick features stay included in plans, or move to paid tiers?
- How does Shopify plan to work with OpenAI and Stripe’s checkout protocol rather than against it?
The answers to these will tell merchants more about 2027 than any revenue number.
What merchants should do before the holidays
- Audit your product data. Make sure every product has a clear title, a real description, accurate variants and good images.
- Check catalog mapping settings so you control what is shared with AI agents, including compare-at prices.
- Test Shop Pay, since agents use it to complete purchases.
- Review your apps after the October security incidents. Our Shopify app security guide has a six step check.
- Track AI referrals in Shopify Analytics and Google Analytics, so you know how much of your holiday revenue comes from AI.

What this means in the US, UK and Australia
United States: Most of Shopify’s AI shopping features launch in the US first, and US shoppers are the heaviest users of AI assistants. If you sell in the US, AI channels are already a real source of new customers.
United Kingdom: Shopify has been adding UK specific features, such as Royal Mail pickup points at checkout from October 15 and expanded Translate and Adapt auto sync in the UK and 12 European countries. AI agent features often reach the UK later, so listen for rollout hints on the call.
Australia: Shopify has a large merchant base in Australia. Australian stores selling to US customers can benefit from US agent features now, as long as shipping costs and delivery times are clear in product data.
How to listen to the call
The webcast will be on Shopify’s Investor Relations events page, with a replay posted afterwards. If you do not want to sit through the full call, read the press release and skip to the Q and A section of the transcript, where analysts usually ask the most revealing questions about AI and merchant tools.
A simple product data check
Pick your ten best selling products and ask an AI assistant to recommend a product like yours, for example “best waterproof hiking boots under $150 for wide feet”. Note whether your product appears, and how the assistant describes it. If it gets the price, sizes or materials wrong, the problem is almost always missing or unclear product data. Fix the title, description, variant names and metafields, then try again in a week. This ten minute test tells you more about your AI visibility than any dashboard.
